Me & my office mates frequently drive to sek.13 for lunch whenever we have a chance. This day we had the "sek.13 feel" again so off we go. Instead of the normal coffe shops we frequently visit, we found this new place, Stone Cafe. Nice exterior and all so, we thought we gave it a try.
front view
interior
The restaurant certainly looks very nice, well it IS one of the newly built restaurants there. Interior looks new and very spacey, well a little too spacey...wonder how are they going to cope once the crowd has been built up?
Anyways lets moce on to the F&B.
Carmen's Iced mint coffee is certainly the BOMB. From her looks you know you have to try it, yes?
the only thing good here...notice carmen happy haha
The coffee was really good...HOWEVER the good part ends here.
First dish to arrive was my wet char kuey teow. Tasteless, bad texture and simply just plain bad. a plate of tasteless flour for RM6.50...i instantly got pissed off. WTH is this crap? I don't think anyone would have finished this plate of...sighz. I had to order a cuppa black coffe KAO to wate everything down...luckily the coffe was good.
wet char kuey teow
good cuppa coffee to wash the cr@p down
Carmen's Cantonese Style Bee Hoon wasn't any better either. In fact from what she descripe, it was like eating bee hoon with tasteless water. Simply awful, tasteless and really....just BAD.
canton mee hoon
If you think what me & Carmen had was bad...wait till you see this:
Pauline ordered the Nilam Sandwich set ( just normal sandwich with ham & mayo) & fried chicken wings. For RM 9 for the sandwich & RM 4 for the wings I'd expect a nice triple decker sandwich & juicy wings. But no...she had 2 slices of white bread slapped with mayo & ham, some soggy fries and hard, dry dark sticks that resembles parts of a chicken. BAD!
overpriced roti & ayam
We weren't happy in the end...
unhappy customers
Heres a map for you readers, just in case u wanna try it...

Da Tuan Yuan, Bandar Baru Klang
Da Tuan Yuan 团员冷气饭店, located at Bandar Baru Klang has always been my father's favorite restaurant despite teh place being located 30 minutes away from our place. So it really was a no brainer as where should we go for Father's Day lunch.
Located in BBK, This place has been famous among the locals for their brilliant steamed fish head, among other varieties of yummy delights. Typical chinese style new restaurant, really normal looking. Good luck looking for parking space there during lunch & dinner hours.
front of the shop
They occupy 2.5 shoplots including the open air area, quite big and yet its always full!
full house
First and foremost....there must be steamed fish head!!!this is the steamed fish head with ginger. This fish head here is spot on. Fresh fish, just caught a day ago from Pulau Ketam with its springy texture...coupled with the ginger and superior soup...awesome!!! The harmonious combination of freshness, mild spiciness and mild bitterness is the only thing you'll need in this world really!
steamed fish head with ginger
mmm...glorious glorious fish...
The next to arrive was the lala in superior soup 上汤拉拉. The key to this dish is the lala must be decently sized, fresh & clean from any sand, mud, stones, the soup must be very very good and sweet, and also..lots of baby crabs!!! :D
Definately another signature dish here.
one of the best lala sheung tong around
We had the tofu & sweet potato leaves as well. Standard quality which goes well with the other dishes, comes in a rather generous portion.
tofu
sweet potato leaves
We ordered the deep fried mantis prawns 虾姑 with salted eggs as well. Sounds like a safe bet for seafood yummyness right? WRONG!!! This is rpobably the only food that SUCKED over there. The dish was over battered with tasteless flour, covering the taste over the prawns and even the salted eggs...yes it was THAT bad! Avoid this dish at all cost.
taste worst than it looks
One thing interestingly good is their self made soy milk. Now i normally insist on having just chinese tea with my meals but my sis insisted that i gave it a go. We order a couple more after that :D Its not overly sweet like those u get in a can, and u can actually taste the soy...yea taste the taste of the soy (huh?) ! Try this as well.
soy soy soy
The meals comes to RM91. Not too bad considering the number of food we had. Nothing goes to waste in my family >:D
its like a hurricane came by
Heres a map for you readers. Coming in Along Persiaran Bukit Raja 1 from Federal Highway, turn right when you reach a T-junction, then turn left when you see the police station and CIMB bank. the restaurant is tucked in the middle of both the rows of shops.

Karl's Beisl, Solaris Mon't Kiara
Happy hour became the happiest hour for my working days ever since i started my first job. Since then, i have always been around here and there, trying out various bars, pubs, KTVs, clubs and dare i say, night clubs around town.
This place however, would be my pick for the most comfortable and relaxing bar in Solaris.
Karl's Beisl, roughly translated to Karl's bistro in Austrian, is a nice little restaurant/bar in Solaris. The setting is old school European, very very simple furnishing. Surprisingly i find this place absolutely perfect for a good pint (or five) after work.
I order just 2 pints of Tetleys English Ale, my favourite Brittish ale which i was quite surprised that they serve, as i was going for a full-on japanese buffet later on (yea...u know which one i am talking about...haha).
just what the doctor ordered...
Theres nothing like smooth, rich, well textured ale rushing down your throat into your stomach...just what the doctor ordered after another day of balls busting work...
The bar area is, in my point of view, just right. The classic wodden cabinets, nice arrangements of bottles makes for a smmothing sight to look at while sipping away your favourite pint of liquid gold.
nice view eh?
Normal price for a pint of Tetleys over here is RM22++, standard price for imported beer in Malaysia. Appearently this place serves quite a number of authentic European dishes as well...will look into this matter ASAP :D
Heres a map of the place for you readers. Karl's Beisl is located a couple of lots away from Hagen-daz ice cream shop.

Sick Day At The Office
Was Sick at the office...actually the symptoms occurred over a week ago when i experienced some minor sore throat and coughing, plus the addiction of a HUGE pimple right between my eyebrows, which normally happens just before i get into an once-in-a-year-seriously-sick situation. So i braced myself, drank tea took vitamins quite smoking for the day and yet...nothing seemed to work.
my sick & tired face
In goes a couple of cirrus and off i go, hiding in the company library (actually just a storeroom with loads of books) trying to have a good rest.
i try to be comfortable
Despite having the whole room to myself, and quite a comfortable position to rest in, i couldnt sleep. So, being the good employee that i am, i decided to catch up on some self-improvement reading.
model employees read this
Ok lah fine i was actually reading this:
i read this
My considerate colleagues tapau-ed my lunch for me that day.
IF you are seriously sick, i recommend this:
pack full of vitamin & minerals!!!

...
I continued being sick for the next 5 days.

Manchester United 2009/10 Season Kit
According to the British media, this is supposed to be Man Utd's new kit for the 2009/10 season
V for victory...?
Well...not to be unsupportive or whatever...to me this is just a little...too retro la!
The V design really looks like something from my great grandfather's long buried treasure chest!
Well on the bright side...at least its better than this banana , this robocop-in-the-blues, the green lantern, or the odd looking kop.
Let's all hope the kit would look nicer in real life...otherwise I would have to postpone my plans to buy the jersey for another season...

Gao Ren Guan, ss15 Subang Jaya
It was a lazy Sunday noon and I was busy gaming when Shereen called up for lunch. Deprived of good food for the weekend I decided to join her for lunch despite having my brunch not too long ago. We decided to head to Gao Ren Guan 高人馆 in ss15.
I have seen this restaurant of few times during yumcha sessions in ss15 and a few times in Puchong on business matters. Apparently this is the branch. Been wanting to find out who is the "gao ren" (tall person) which this restaurant took its name from. The appearance of the restaurant is very nice indeed, the simplistic feature which I really adore.
front of the shop, really easy to spot
We reached around 2.30pm, just after the lunch crowd. The restaurant is not hard to spot as it is one of the newer ones there and has a really stricking signboard. Inside, there are still a number of customers enjoying their meals...Sunday is when you are supposed to wake up late and have a late lunch i supposed.
nice cozy interior
Once i got to the menu i straight away read through the restaurant introduction.Turns out this place is not own by a tall fellow, or employs tall people at all. It got its name from Gao Zhou, a place near GuangDong China. The food, as stated in the introduction, are similar to Cantonese cuisine. Ok i am definately interested!
the intro...nope, this is not the tall guy which the restaurant got its name from
We decided to order a few of the dishes they advertise heavily on the menu, namely the GaoChou Tou Pok 高州黄金卜, Braised Pork 家乡扣肉, a simple bakchoy dish 葱油白菜, rice and tea.
The GaoChou TouPok was simply AMAZING! its essencially pork & veg stuffed in lightly deep fried toufu pok. There were a lot of stuffings inside and everybite simply sends you up to heaven...the soup which the dish comes in was very very light, yet very flavourful...really capturing the very definition of Cantonese cuisine....5 thumbs up for the dish!!!
looks yummy yes?
generous fillings...simply yummy
Next to arrive was the braised pork. This is a very common version of the dish, which i would add here a dish that my grandma made her own!!!haha...feeling a little biased, i reckon the pork could used a little more time cooking to get it softer and that melt-in-your-mouth feeling. The sauce was OK though a little too bitter for shereen. Goes very well with the rice though.
who can resist braised pork?lolz
Last to arrive was the bakchoy (which i gave out the wtf? feeling). Now this is the best part. It was simply gorgeous! The veg was cruchy and fresh, the simple soya sauce & saseme oil mixture goes perfectly with the dish. This must be one of the best veg dish i had so far! (grandma's dishes not included of course...lol) Should you visit this place, please order this simple yet oh so good dish...you will be surprised at how good this taste!
a little surprise in this little dish
The billed amounted to RM 46.20. A little bit on the high side but hey, definately worth the money i think. the generous amount should do more than retify their higher pricing. Note that all the dishes were small portions.
Heres a map for you readers. Gao Ren Guan Subang Jaya is located in ss15. Should you come from Subang Parade, go past the Shell Station & Mcdonalds on you left, then turn left pass an EON bank on your right. go straight and its right in front of you. Cha Cha Pan Mee, Dataran Prima Petaling Jaya
Had to visit a supplier in Dataran Prima around lunch time one day...so me, Carmen & EngHao decided to have lunch around the area as well. Carmen suggested this place, which, gives a very nice and modern first impression.
Corner lot facing NKVE...no way you can miss it
Now i dont know about you but to me, pan mee is like the only food which KL can claim to be its own. And its actually one of my fav noodle dishes too!!! Loving Carmen to bits for bringing us here as i hopped happily into the restaurant.
The restaurant was packed full of the usual office lunch crowd. We were very lucky to get a seat just next to the beverage area. Nice setting and the lunch crowd actually gives us a very good impression of the place.
Nice setting inside....pack full of working crowd
I ordered the dry pan mee, Carmen got the cha cha pan mee soup whilst EngHao decided to have the curry pan mee. Those would, i supposed, be the chef's recommendation here. Interesting enough theres a small stall in the middle of the place which sells nasi lemak & lo bak. Decided to have some while waiting for our noodles.
very nice lobak
The lobak is what you usually get from hawker stalls. Except over here, they serve curry sauce besides the normal chilis sauce, which adds a very unique touch to this somewhat common dish. And theres this particular lobak which has eggs in them (refer to picture above) definitely very nice!!! Definitely a good idea for the restaurant to serve some appetizers as our noodles took some time to arrive.
Carmen's cha cha pan mee soup was the first one to arrive. For those of you who are not familiar with cha cha pan mee, its actually made from the same dough except instead of putting them through a manually operated machine turning them into long strains of flat noodles, they were "pinch" into little flat pieces using the hand. The little pieces of pan mee were light and thin, and the soup is very flavorful indeed. Every bit the perfect bowl of cha cha pan mee should be with the usual veg, anchovies & eggs.
carmen's cha cha pan mee soup
EngHao's curry pan mee looks...and smells very good indeed. It even comes with a small bowl of clear soup...how nice! packed full of chicken pieces, bean sprouts, fuu chuk 腐竹 and even....lala! thats a first!
enghao's curry pan mee
My dry pan mee was the last to arrive. As usual, its the flat noodles soaked in a bed of dark sauce and a piece of poached egg on top. Overloading the pan mee with dried chilies is what make this simple dish oh sooooo good...and overload i did!
dry pan mee overloaded with dried chillies
I have to say...the chilies provided are very very nice indeed. Smells wonderful yet not overpowering, this is really one of the best ones i've tried so far. And guess what...they have pork lard mixed into the pan mee as well! ooooooooo juicy juicy pork lard.....hmmmmm...
pork lard pork lard me luv u
carmen, enghao, & doggyjames busy eating
What can i say?absolutely delicious! the smooth dark sauced mixed with dried chilies...fragrant pork lard mixed into chewy strings of wonderful pan mee...and the chili sauce just makes everything together perfectly...love it!
my way of eating the dried chillies & chili sauce
Interesting information: Carmen suggest mixing the dried & wet chilies together...well...not really my cuppa tea but you can try it for yourself!
carmen's hybrid dried chillies & chili sauce mix
el classico cock bowl
Ahhh...very good lunch indeed...sometimes i am glad i am in marketing :D
Total of the meal is RM31. Quite economical considering the amount of food we had and the environment.
emptied everything
Heres a map of the place for you readers. If you are coming from Sunway via LDP, turn left into the junction after you see St Ignatius Church on your left. drive straight till you reach metro prima & a condo on your right. The restaurant is just after them on your right.
Doggyjames says...serves very very good pan mee in a very comfortable environment...quite a bit of flies in there though.
