Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa Kampung Baru, Shah Alam

Lately me & some of my office mates noticed that the famous nasi lemak antarabangsa had just opened a branch near our office in Shah Alam. So one fine day when Carmen called me out for early lunch, we just had to try this place out, which is like 5 minutes from our office.

The place is in the new business area in Taman TTDI Jaya, seksyen U2. This is certainly a welcomed change from the usual old school food courts, warungs, pasar malams, mamaks & tepi jalan stalls. I know this might sound a little bit ulu but...its my first time having nasi lemak in an air conditioned environment :D

Below are some pictures of the place. The green exterior certainly strikes out among the number of normal looking restaurants there. There is this vibrant feel to the place which i cant really explain...definitely boosting my cravings for some nice hot nasi lemak!

We ordered nasi lemak sets each, which comes with a glass of iced lemon tea. They politely informed us that the rendang ayam would take about 20 minutes to prepare so we figured might as well wait...at the meantime munch on some cokodok pisang.

The cokodok pisangs were amazing. Now this is not the usual cold flourballs with no trace of banana in them like what u'd expect from a mamak stall, but generously pisang-filled and hot from the wok! wow...talk about awaking your appetite! comes with a cuppa hot coffee too...coffee was...normal la...haha

Shortly after the great appetizer our nasi lemaks arrived :D oh my let me tell u its worth the wait! the rendang chicken has such a complex mixture of spices yet the chef did a superb job in harmonizing the dish. Its like the classic saying "its like theres a party in my mouth and everyones invited"! The chicken was so juicy & tender...and guess what...its was the chicken breast. This must be the best chicken breast i've tried in years!

My beef rendang was not as bombastic as the chicken...but it was certainly a class above the usual ones at your local mamak or road side stall ( sorry auntie manning nasi lemak stall near my office... ). Definitely a great meal. Comes with 3 big slices of smoked paru paru as well. I would however prefer the rice to be a little more fragrant, but Carmen said its just fine.

The meal cost us RM26. Higher than the usual fair but we definately would come back for more.

Stone Cafe, Seksyen 13 Shah Alam

Me & my office mates frequently drive to sek.13 for lunch whenever we have a chance. This day we had the "sek.13 feel" again so off we go. Instead of the normal coffe shops we frequently visit, we found this new place, Stone Cafe. Nice exterior and all so, we thought we gave it a try.

The restaurant certainly looks very nice, well it IS one of the newly built restaurants there. Interior looks new and very spacey, well a little too spacey...wonder how are they going to cope once the crowd has been built up?

Anyways lets moce on to the F&B.

Carmen's Iced mint coffee is certainly the BOMB. From her looks you know you have to try it, yes?

The coffee was really good...HOWEVER the good part ends here.

First dish to arrive was my wet char kuey teow. Tasteless, bad texture and simply just plain bad. a plate of tasteless flour for RM6.50...i instantly got pissed off. WTH is this crap? I don't think anyone would have finished this plate of...sighz. I had to order a cuppa black coffe KAO to wate everything down...luckily the coffe was good.

Carmen's Cantonese Style Bee Hoon wasn't any better either. In fact from what she descripe, it was like eating bee hoon with tasteless water. Simply awful, tasteless and really....just BAD.

If you think what me & Carmen had was bad...wait till you see this:

Pauline ordered the Nilam Sandwich set ( just normal sandwich with ham & mayo) & fried chicken wings. For RM 9 for the sandwich & RM 4 for the wings I'd expect a nice triple decker sandwich & juicy wings. But no...she had 2 slices of white bread slapped with mayo & ham, some soggy fries and hard, dry dark sticks that resembles parts of a chicken. BAD!

Desa Paku Restaurant, Bukit Jelutong Shah Alam

About 10am on a boring Tuesday morning my work lunch buddy/residential cutie pie/wacky becky Rebecca mentioned this new place just opened near the office. So not willing to go for the same mixed rice, mamak and too lazy to drive out, me and another lunch buddy Carmen decided to try this place out

Literally minutes away from the office, this place provides a different feel from the usual kopitiam & mamak stalls around my office (my office=very JAKUN place). I like the feeling inside out, nice simple yet comfortable feeling...this is soooooo gonna be the place for me to snake...lolz

The seating inside is quite nice and comfy too, with minimal number of patrons as its still the first day...this looks very promising i told myself

They have 2 basic food groups namely rice & noodles. The rice section includes the usual chicken rice, fried rice, nasi campur etc and as you can see in the picture, there are quite a few selection for their nasi campur. As i found out from the boss later this is apparently a malay/thai cuisine restaurant...nice!

There is also a noodles section as well. The interesting thing is that over here, all the noodle dishes are made right in front of you. they have these huge claypots holding up the soups: tomyum, curry, sup rempah & a clear broth looking soup...this kinda reminds me of Bakso style noodles btw...they serve those nice yellow meehon like noodles which really taste nice

Being a rice and curry person I went straight to the dishes, picked out some spicy sayur paku and overloaded the rice with curry & lemak. Interestingly I decided to try their ayam percik too, although I am not so into chicken. Their ayam percik however looks really appetising, even Becky & Carmen decided to order some for themselves. Besides those they also have seafood e.g. fish, squid, prawns & if my eyesights serve me well...crabs. There are beef & lamb too

The verdict? to be honest it was a little dissapointing...the vegetables were too cold and a little bit salty...and chicken was cold too. But despite saying that I really liked their seasoning on the chicken, would really wanna try this piece of baby HOT. The curry sauce are not too bad either...just how i like them, spicy and fatty! The sambal balacan was really really good! fragant and spicy, totally how sambal balacans are supposed to be

Becky took the tomyum noodles. Accoding to her the tomyum was...dissapoiting. the soup was almost tasteless (on my count) but they do throw in a generous amount of seafood & prawns...5 BIG ones by her count...and fresh too!

Carmen decided to have a hailanese style seafood fried noodles. This was surprisingly pleasant! The sauce was really fragrant and packed full of great taste and again, the noodles was accompanied by several big & fresh prawns. Carmen really enjoyed her meal

After the meal I decided to have some kuih as dessert...kuih were alright but a piece of advise: when your lunch buddy ask you to get the kuihs heated up microwave style....DO NOT DO IT!!! *stares at Becky*

Lunch was OK for me. Since its their first day of business I shall give them some room for improvement. The gals however seemed like they've really enjoyed themselves!

Heres a map for you readers should you need it. Coming from NKVE & Shah Alam just drive straight untill you see the flextronics factory. Then turn left immediately. You should be able to be The Star on your right and some shoplots on your letf. Turn left when you see HeiTech village and turn left at the first turning. Then follow the road all the way. You will then see Desa Paku on your right very soon.
