TeaRoom by Bel Jee, Bangsar

When a cafe gets famous even though its location is not that obvious, you know it's bound to be good. That's exactly what Bel Jee's Tearoom offers, great food in a quiet side of Bangsar.

I was introduced to this little cafe by a friend who works here part time, and was pleased to find that the environment here is actually quite peaceful and private despite having only a few tables. What caught my eyes the moment I stepped into the cafe was their pretty cupcakes which are really detailed and unique, you can see the chefs giving their full attention into making such a common item, always a good thing in my books :)

And if you decided to read a book here but forgotten to bring your book, fear not! Cupboard full of novels here :D

Me and a lunchmate decided to go for the Beef Sheppard Pie (RM7.80) and Chicken & Mushroom Pasta Bake (RM7.80). The pie was really good for me. The mashed potatoes were smooth and the filings simply marvelous, just the thing to counter a cold and windy afternoon! I thought the pasta was a little blend but my lunchmate loved it, and there were a generous amount of meat and mushroom in her meal, and instant hit with her! The side salad which is actually a potato salad is simply amazing as well, loved it!

It was a pleasant surprise for me that Bel Jee uses Segafredo coffee to make their coffees, one of my favorite coffees! Despite that, I got myself a Green Tea Latte (RM7.90), a result of having 5 cups of coffee earlier, did not wanna get a heart attack anytime soon. The latte was really smooth and the presence of green tea is obvious despite a generous amount of milk. Me likey :D

The lunchmate decided to go for Cafe Almond Mocha (RM7.90). I took a sip and it was really good, it was almond-ny yet was not overpowered by the almond taste. Perfect execution!

And then....dessert came ^^

First to arrive was the White Chocolate Cheese Cake with Lychee and Maschapone Cheese (RM8.50). The verdict? ZOMFG GOOD! The cake was fluffier than most cheesecakes out there because of the maschapone cheese and yet, has a really profound chocolaty taste in it, a perfect match made in heaven!!!

Next to come was the Croissant Bread Pudding with Raisins and White Chocolate Sauce (RM4.50). This is the first time I've come across bread puddings made from croissants, a very pleasant masterpiece I must say, it was not too wet and the pudding was actually quite crispy because of the croissant. The white chocolate sauce? simply heavenly :)

And last but not least, my favorite :) Double Chocolate Brownie with Chocolate Sauce (RM4.80) Chocolate on chocolate woohooooooooooo!!! Could go better with a scoop of ice cream though but nonetheless, chocolaty goodness this one!

The owner Bel was around when I was there and she told us that she started out as a self-taught pastry chef who does customised orders at home. Just look at the cake below, isnt it cute? Thumbs up to this former business consultant who decided to quit her boring 9-5 job and open her own cafe!

BelJee specializes in customised cakes as mentioned earlier, Imma getting my pal's bachelor party cake from BelJee soon instead of a boring cake from a random bakery since designs can be customised....hehehe

Here's a map for you readers. TeaRoom by BelJee is located at Wisma Volkswagen along Jalan Maarof, just look for the building with a big VW sign on it and the place is located on the G floor.

Coffee Ritual, Sec 14 PJ

Its about 3pm after me and my buddies had lunch around Subang and we decided a cuppa coffee is in order. All we see around are Starbucks, Coffee Bean and the army of modern coffee houses around town, we decided to pop by Coffee Ritual instead, a place where I had lunch with some colleagues a few months back and fell in love with.

And off we went to Sec 14, and found a nice parking spot right in front of the place. Went in, ordered our drinks and relaxed a little bit with a few good magazines and some chit chat. Theres something about this place I really like, maybe its the relaxed environment right in the middle of PJ? Or the nice simple yet functional deco? I don't know, just liking it :)

My friends ordered a couple of hazelnut lattes and an ice blended Chocolate as they are quite into the flavoured coffee scene. Nice fragrance from the hazelnut lattes, tasted smooth and packed full with hazelnut flavour too. My friends loved it, but I thought the hazelnut overpowered the coffee taste. Just me I guess. Ice blended chocolate was alright although I wouldn't mind the taste to be a little bit stronger.

The fancy coffes were not too bad, but I was really here for their single origin coffee, brewed using a Syphon coffee maker (vacuum brewing). What makes this so special is that single origin coffee means they use only coffee from 1 spot/grower instead of mixed ones like most of the coffee out there. The Syphon brewing process makes the coffee more power I think, yet really smooth for those who enjoys their coffee black and simple :)

Pretty cool stuff as you can see here: Chin the owner/resident brewer would pack the coffee into the upper container while broiling water inside the bottom one. Once the water reaches boiling point they would go up into the upper container, forcing flavour in while retaining its smoothness. Pretty neat stuff.

And this in the end is what you get. An aromatic, flavourful and smooth cuppa coffee. Simply fantastic stuff, And at RM6 a cup it definitely wont burn a hole in your pocket!

Ahh...life's simple pleasures... :)

I decided to order a serving of tiramisu as well, just because they looked so damn yummy! And they were! creamy and heavenly fantastic stuff, again a bargain at RM5.60 :D

Yumz nomz nomz :)))

The little coffee escape cost four of us RM42, quite alright and definately cheaper than one of those imported coffee chains! Do try their crapes if you happen to stop by, they are fantastically delicious :D

Heres a map (which I stole from their website) for you readers. If you are familiar with Sec 14 Digital Mall, its located right at the other end of Digital Mall right at the corner. Really hard to miss. Parking could be a hassle though so brace yourself.

Pappa Rich, Kota Damansara

PappaRich kopitiam is one of the newest modern kopitiams mushrooming around the country. I always wanted to visit the place after numerous good & bad reviews about this kopitiam. The chance arrived when I had a small yumcha session with Carmen & my ex boss, Shereen.

We decided to have our little yumcha session at the Kota Damansara branch. The setting was, as would any other modern kopitiam outlets nice & very presentable. However it was a little bit too dark for my liking...and the amount of mosquitoes...gah!!! annoying!

front view

I ordered the papa cham ice a.k.a. kopi & tea mixed together. It taste good, not fantastic but just good. Could see myself hiding behind my laptop with a few glasses of these babies all day long...ahhh...

lovely cuppa cham ice

The food was...average to say the least. Carmen's kuey teow soup with steamed chicken was alright. The kuey teow were smooth and just right, but the chicken was bad. Overcooked & dry...she didnt finish the chicken. Worst thing is that she had the chicken drumsticks, so if it were the breasts i wouldnt dare to imagine how bad THAT would be.

kuey teow soup with steamed chicken

Shereen's steamed bread was good though. Soft & fragrant...overloading with butter & kaya...it was definitely a slice of heaven....the picture i took was somehow mysteriously corrupted, so heres a picture from their website. She had the one on the left.

the breads

I decided to have the curry laksa. It was...bad. The noodles were a little bit undercooked, the soup was too thick & the chicken were undercooked. The chicken meat were still pink! I understand that these outlets hire banglas to cook in the kitchen but this is unacceptable! DO NOT order this in papa rich ever!

BAD laksa!

All & all it was an OK experience. I absolutely hated my noodles but the cham iced was alright. Would just come back to this place just for the drinks. Bill came to RM41.05 for our food. Definitely a little bit overpriced in my eyes.

Heres a map for you readers. I'll just provide the map & address for the kota damansara outlet. The rest of the outlets you can check out from their website attached below.
