On a fine afternoon me & my colleagues were invited to a nice lunch session at Sushi Tei, Tropicana Mall by our advertising agency ( thank you Ms Ho :D ). Being a great fan of Japanese cuisine i couldn't say no. Its my first time trying this place out, as I had heard of the place before.
Sushi Tei is an international Japanese restaurant franchise which originated from 1994 in Singapore. It now has outlets in Indonesia, Thailand, China, Australia & recently, Malaysia. The international reputation really had me on high hopes...so lets see what they are really like...shall we?
The entrance to the place is could only be summed up to one word: elegance. This is the typical classy Japanese restaurant outlook.grand yet simple...a sense of serenity in it.

The interior is clean & tidy. With a sushi belt, which i really like (noneed to wait for your food to arrive...hahaha). We sat down and started to place our order and of course, some japanese green tea.

First things first, we started off with some sushi off the sushi belt. The usual salmon & tuna sushi, salmon rainbow rolls, tuna rolls, fried ebi tempura sushi, & lightly charred salmon sushi. The taste was really really good, exquisite really. The fish slices were really fresh, comparable to some 5-star hotels out there.
sushi-ness!!!
rainbow sushi....mmm...
We ordered quite a bit from the ala carte menu as well. The first to arrive is the eel. yummy yummy eel with its yummy yummy sauce...yummy!!! Once thing which bothered me a little was the thousands of bones inside, something i've never encounter before. The meat itself however was really fresh and the sauce, superb!
fresh juicy eel
I've ordered something rather interesting, its like soup in a teapot. The soup contains pieces of chicken, spring onions, tofu and mushrooms with a miso based soup. One word: HEAVENLY. If miso soup is good, this is heaven. All the elements of the ingredients were all in the soup. This is a must try, they have other flavours such as clams & seafood as well.
goodness in a teapot
My 2 colleagues decided to order some noodles to go with everything. One was the Tempura Udon & the other, ramen with fried chicken slices. I tried them...not too bad. Springy noodles with quite a flavourful soup base. Would be perfect for a quick lunch I think.

This is another one that I order, cant remember what is it called though. Its like those small fish with eggs in them, which are pan fried till golden brown. A squeeze of lemon and down the bad boy while its still piping hot, nice...
nice little fish....which i forgot the name...haha
We had the gyoza as well. Meaty & juicy inside, just the right seasoning, eating with its thing yet crunchy skin is just fabulous. This is gyoza done just right I reckon.
gyoza goodness
It was a really fulfilling meal...but its not done! we had desserts too hahaha. They recommended the ice balls to us (yes I swear that was what they called those...erm...ice balls) and we orders the ice cream fish, which they cut up in pieces for us...how nice!
The ice balls were really uniquely good. Different flavours of melon, chocolate, vanilla & strawberries with a surprise soft centre. Do try these balls the next time you dine here. The ice cream fish was good as well, with light vanilla scent & red bean paste fillings....thumbs up!

Doggyjames says...Despite the numbers of Japanese restaurants out there, i somehow find this place a class above the others. Would definitely recommend this place, suitable for all occasions.
