Justice System in Malaysia

Do keep in mind that this is NOT a political blog, nor do i care about the current political situation in the country. But when i was reading the news today these 2 cases really angered me kao-kaoed today:

Five years jail for attempted rape on 5 year old

20 years for RAPE & MURDER

I mean...only FIVE years for attempted rape on a FIVE year old kid? come on!!! This guy fucked up the kid's life forever and he only gets 5 years??? There is no logic at all!!!And only TWO strokes of the rotan? There was a case where a WOMAN gets more for drinking beer!!!

And the 2nd case...wow. U rape & killed a bright young student, who was underage at the time, robbed her life, destroyed her family's hopes and u get a bargain of 20 years only? Come on!!! This guy should at least get life sentence if not hanged! Its murder!

Doggyjames is deeply saddened by the justice system in Malaysia. Why aren't the lawmakers doing something about it? Surely this is too much for anyone to swallow!

Disappointed....disappointed...

Sighz...

Blue Sky Tapioca Noodles, Klang

Whats better than noodles? My answer: tapioca noodles! These stringy & super gluey noodles may look, & feel disgusting when dipped in water, somehow like a snake's skin, but they sure taste damn well in the hands of a master chef!I was introduced to this place in Klang which does just that by my dad, and finally I had the chance to experience the noodles there live for myself.

It was kinda hard finding the place, nonetheless we reached there just in time to beat the dinner crowd. It is very easy to miss as this is actually a home operated business, literally built on a corner lot house, something quite common in the older parts of Klang. There is this big banner in front of the place just in case you couldn't find it. Seating is OK, plastic stools & almost broken wooden tables are fine by me.

We ordered 2 kinds of tapioca noodles, dry & wet style. They fried the noodles with various seafood...REAL seafood not those factory generated fish balls crap, fresh veg, fried garlic & lots & lots & lots of pork lard! Super yummy! The contrast between the crunchy pork lard and the smoothing noodles is simply fab. I prefer the dry one as the pork lard retains all of its juiciness & wonderful aroma...those of you who prefers something light would like the wet type. Nonetheless they are both very very good.

soon to be in my stomach ones

The seafood served here are all very fresh, you wouldn't come to Klang to have seafood and get unfresh seafood on your plates. They choose to deep fry the "chicken fish" 鸡鱼" with deep friend garlic. Might sound very oily but it goes very well with the noodles. Strange but true. Once you bite into the fresh, the oiliness somehow get neutralized by the fresh meat making it oh-my-gawd-so-damn-good.

deep fried fish with garlic...LOTS of garlic!

We had the sweet potato leaves & deep fried mantis prawns to complete our meals. Veg was fresh & crispy, although a little bit too salty for me. The mantis prawns....another typical disaster of putting too much flour...its more like having flour balls with traces of prawn...not good.

normal lah the veg...

whats with KLang people & mantis prawns?not good friends?

Places like this are the reasons why i love Klang so much. Honest people earning honest money by offering great meals, using the best ingredients available charging a fair amount in return. It only cost 4 of us less than RM30 for the meal, with herbal tea for everyone.

Here's a map for you readers. The place is located at the corner lot house at the end of Jalan Kelichap 43, opposite Petronas and next to Klang Parade. No numbers provided as the owners did not want too many customers...lol

Fruitty Cafe, Tesco Shah Alam

Fruitty cake house was one of the more famous cafes in Klang years ago...I can still recall going to the place right after church just to have some of their famous Nasi Lemak & cakes YEARS ago...good times indeed. So when i found out that Fruitty had opened a store in Tesco Shah Alam, i knew i had to try it! This is now one of my favourite lunch places in Shah Alam.

Fruitty Cafe is located on the ground floor, and its easily visible from the outside. They offer daily lunches here, mainly to attract to working crowd. You'd have to order & pay at the counter, next to all those yummy yummy cakes, then find a place and the waitress would serve you your meals.

from outside

Me & Carmen both ordered the Nasi Briyani with Rendang Chicken set, which comes with the cake of the day and a glass of iced lemon tea. The nasi briyani was a little bit blend to be honest, but the Rendang made up for it. Chicken was cooked to perfection, just soft enough yet the meat still holds together and retains all its juices. The Rendang sauce must be one of the best sauces in cafe standards....beats any of those old town/new town whateva kopitiams hands down. Must try!

Rebecca & Ms Wan ordered the Fish & Chips set, which comes with the usual cake & tea. The meal might not loog very appetising, but from what i heard, the fish was just right...not dry at all...and i reckon that was the first time i see both girls clearing their chips! hmmm...must be good then...but then definately not better than the Briyani & Rendang set....hehe

nothing like rice & good sauce eh?

fish n chippies

the cake of the day...i know it looks horrible. taste wise...very so-so...

Another trademark of Fruitty is their Apple Strudles. They claimed that the recipe came from Australia...how much of that is true i dont know...but they are really good. Apples inside taste just right, not too sweet yet just enough to not let the acidity overpower the whole strudle. Pastry skin is very crunchy too. You can buy a piece for RM4 or a whole "log" for RM20...Trust me, you wouldnt wanna miss this.

do have one...

then tapau 1 more log hahaha

The bill came to less than RM 14.40 per person, very worth it. They do have different choices as well...ranging from Nasi Lemak to Different Sandwichs. Price wise they're all below RM15.

the gals r happy

Heres a map for you readers. I have include the address & contact details of their Klang outlet as well just in case.

Jaya Noodle House, Jaya One PJ

Had some business matter to attend to in Jaya One, so as usual I was thinking of all the beer, beer and beers after the meeting haha..but just before i could tempt Carmen to a nice cooling pint of beer, she suggested that we have dinner at Jaya noodle house instead. I have never heard of the place before but appearent it was very famous when the outlet was still in Jaya supermarket, years ago. So why not?

Jaya noodles house 富门面家 is located near to old town kopitiam, and it wasnt have to find at all after looking at the directories. Very nice place i would say, though simple, all the furnishing & interiors somehow reminds me of one of them traditional restaurants in Hong Kong.

from outside

inside...nice oldies feel hey?

Sat down and looked through their menu. They have the usual roasted duck, chicken, char siew and siu yok dishes. Looks good on the menu, but i've decided to try something else...something like...Pork Hock Noodles!

Oh yea, they serve some really nice papadam chips for starters here...nice!

papadams!

Their pork hock noodles is really really nice. Juicy pork fat running wild in your mouth...mmm...very fresh & delicate they have made the meat to be. The sauce goes well with the pork and noodles...but a little too much MSGs for my liking. Nonetheless it was still very good.

pork hock noodles

TASTY baby!!!

Carmen decided to have the clear noodles soup with steamed chicken. Looks good, smells even better. And the expression on her face confirms that its good. They sure arent stingy with the servings here, we were so full we couldnt walk for a while.

for those who prefers something light

The bill comes to RM 21 for a truely fulfilling meal. Definately would be back again.

Heres a map for JayaOne for you. Jaya noodles house is located outside, facing the road, a couple of shoplots away from Old town Kopitiam. Just check the directory there if you cant find it.

Meng Kee Steamed Soup, Paramount PJ

I have always enjoy great chinese food...by the roadside. Chances are if there is a stall selling chinese food, no matter roasted duck, general chinese food, dai-chao or in this case, steamed soups, they would be super good.

Shereen had told me about this chinese food stall in Paramount gardens specializing in steamed soups. And we finally had the chance to let me taste this little hidden secret in PJ for the first time after one of our shopping sessions during the weekends. It is tucked away nicely beside Paramount's Giant Supermarket & Post office, right by the roadside. By the time we arrived, about 9pm, the place was still packed, some customers had even just seated. This gave away little regarding the place's yummy-ness...so we waited for about 15 minutes before sitting down and placing our order.

By the way, its called Meng Kee Steam Soup or 洺记暾汤.

by the road side

so many customers...

its next to the post office

The soup was the first to arrive. We ordered the chicken soup with old ginseng. My god was it good or what! The soup was steamed to perfection, having absorb all the essence of flavours from the chicken, which i suspect is kampung chicken, the old ginseng and various kinds of herbs & chinese medicine which were generously thrown into the soup. A few pieces of old cucumber were found inside the soup, giving it the extra bit of dimension in terms of texture. This soup, receives the 10/10 honours from doggyjames, the first of its kind. Certainly out of this world!

steamed soup

We ordered some dishes to go with the soup. Steamed chicken, steamed bakchoy & tofu with fish paste. There were definitely above average, although i'd like the chicken to be warmed up a bit before serving. The bokchoy was steamed just right, crunchy enough and the sauce was very good indeed. Amazing what simple oyster sauce & sesame oil can do to your average plate of veg. The tofu was...flavorful. Although i dont see the point in adding the fish paste. It lacks the fishy presence in it.

The bill comes to RM 33 including 2 servings of ice herbal tea, very cheap considering the quality of food we had. Oh and you better get there early as most of their 50 different kinds of soup are sold out before 9pm.

Heres a map for you readers. Meng Kee is located right beside Giant & Paramount Post Office. Right at the roadside. no way you can miss it.

Restaurant Ayam Penyet, USJ 9

This is the first time i ever had ayam penyet. Heard about this particularly famous Indonesian import since last year but never really had the chance to try it. Well my chance arrived a couple of weeks ago after me & some friends landed home from our holidays.

This place that we decided to go to is Restaurant Ayam Penyet, located in USJ 9 or Taipan Business Centre. It was covered on The Star and some other magazines and recommended highly by one of my friends, so off we went straight from the airport.

The restaurant is located on the ground floor, with its big & very visible signboard. Dont be fooled by the interior shot. It was 3pm at the time and we were the only customers.

exterior

interior

We started the meal with a nice cooling Indonesian tea called Teh Botol. Taste lighter than our usual teh-o-ais, which is what we really needed on that hot sunny afternoon.

teh botol which saved our lives

We had the Gado Gado for starters, a salad dish with lettuce, tomatoes, bean sprouts & eggs covered with mystery sauce which taste like a gentle version of satay sauce and topped with some prawn crackers & interestingly, brinjal crackers. Certainly tasted very very nice, just enough to warm up our stomachs for the big ayam penyet meals ahead.

gado gado

All of us ordered the same ayam penyet with nasi goreng meal. Were told that this is the best combination in the house. The chicken was very aromatic and the meat, very juicy & tender, cooked just right. Spices used on the ayam was spot on, not too overpowering like the ones you get in KFC haha just enough to bring the best out of the ayams...perfect! The nasi goreng complimented the ayam perfectly, Would really say this is one dish i dont mind coming back again & again for lunch.

the superb ayam penyet

One thing to add. For those to cannot take the heat...stay AWAY from their sambal & balachan. these are from Indon and trust me, you'll either enjoy the hotness, or cough like hell. I thought it was some pickled veg so i put the whole thing into my mouth, almost died lolz.

this is NOT pickled veg...its dynamite!

The whole meal adds up to about RM55 for 4 person. Not too bad considering their generous portion. Would be back very soon :)

Heres a map and contact details for you readers. Coming from Digital Mall Usj 19 along Jalan Kewajipan, turn left into Taipan Business Centre after you see the big mosque. look for USJ 9/5Q. It should be on your left on the 1-way street. Lots of parking there.

Tenji Japanese Buffet, Solaris Mont Kiara

Tenji Japanese Buffet Restaurant in Solaris had been a hit recently, often being compared to Jogoya, another Japanese buffet restaurant. So, not willing to miss out on the fun, I decided to try the place out recently along with Ming & Haiyunn.

Tenji is located just above Cold Storage in Solaris, with its big signage outside, no way you can miss the place. Lots of seats inside, enough for maybe 300 customers i reckon. The buffet tables were aligned nicely, easily accessible no matter where you were seated. We had the table outside. Oh and this place is smoker friendly too if you sit outside.

from the ground

entrance

The buffet here is absolutely crazy! You would be spoilt for choices. They have everything here, from fresh juicy oysters, various sashimi & sushi, sukiyaki, tempura, grilled salmon belly to international food like dimsum, roast meat, chinese, and various western food. The oysters here were really the bomb. Its even bigger than a cigarette box, as you can see from the pictures below. Ingredients were fresh and trust me when i say they did not scrooge when it comes to portion. Words cannot describe the delight i've got, so i'll just let the pictures do the talking.

see...it IS bigger than a pack of ciggies!

Tenji's cooked hot food section was packed. They display a selection of food on their table, and when you feel like it, take a pin which are marked with your table number and number pin the plate of dishes you wish to have the chef prepare for you. They have vegetables, meat and fresh fish. The cod fish here is a must try, very fresh and the chef steamed it to perfection...literally melts in your mouth.

steamed cod - must try!

Now this would make the ladies go crazy...look at all the desserts they have! various cakes, biscuits, crackers and exotic desserts which even i have never seen before. And the best thing is they serve HAAGEN DAAZ ice cream here...wow...the rumour WAS true!!!

I had a few tiramisu & mochi, plus a few scoops of the heavenly ice cream :D

i was...erm...gonna show you the roast beef counter...not the lenglui...yupz that was what i wanna do

They serve a lot of drinks here, from tea to juices to coconut juice. Interesting to see their selection of flower tea. We tried the lavender and rose tea, good & very flavourful. The coffee was superb as well. The coconuts were everyones favourite, personally i had about half a dozens of those little bad boys.
