Sate Kajang Hj Samuri, Damansara Uptown

One of my buddies from my uni days in Adelaide came back for the new years last month, and was pestering non-stop about this satay shop in Uptown. My first reaction, of course was "you siao ah? Satay ofcoz go Kajang mar where got people go Uptown one?" But being the incredibly friendly host that I am, I decided to accompany him to that shop nonetheless.

We went 2 months after he landed, 3 days before his departure.

The place was not hard to find, probably the only Satay shop in the area. Once we reached the place I immediately recognized the place...isn't this the one in Kajang? Didnt know they have franchises...coolz! The place was nice and simple, with load of nice antiques around, perfect for me to show off my noob photography skills to Dandan (the guy who had to wait almost 2 months before we finally go to the place).

We arrived at about 3pm, just after the lunch rush so its relatively easy to get a seat. Heck, the restaurant was empty I even had time to check out some cameras in a shop nearby while waiting for Dandan. We were really ambitious that day as we place our order of 30 chicken satays & 10 beef satays, thinking we would still have some space left in our tummy for rabbit satays...wrong. We are in our mid twenties now...not 19 when we first met when all the buffets in Adelaide would ban us for life because of the amount of food we could put down in one seating...We had orange juice to cool us down after the heaty satays.

The satay itself was amazingly good, just below an orgasmic experience in my books. The meat was tenderly juicy and smells superb. The sauce was perfectly match with the meat, with my own adjustment of spiciness: Blow-Head-Off level. Fantastic.

I supposed the best thing about a place like this is that the satays are made fresh on demand, and surprisingly the taste was somewhat similar to the original shop in Kajang. The sauce taste very much like the one in the main shop too, which the traditional peanut sauce & sambal set on different bowls for you to adjust the spiciness yourself. Splendid.

All in all it was a splendid meal. The price there is very reasonable as well. Just look at the price list below. Noodles dishes are offered as well but I wasn't interested. The satay itself is enough, really. Am gonna go there and try their rabbit satay. Fluffy & cute animals are generally yummy. Think bambi & babe the piglet. yum yum.

Heres a map & details for you readers. The place is located near HSBC & Starbucks in Damansara Uptown, opposite the public car parks, not hard to find really. Parking would be a biatch so good luck.

TauFu Hua, Taman Eng Ann Klang

Now most of you would have figured out by now that I am CRAZY over Klang Bak Kut Teh. Well this is not an entry on BKT unfortunately, but rather on what I normally have after a nice BKT breakfast in Klang on Sunday mornings. Yes, I visit the Taufu Hua uncle in Taman Eng Ann everytime I have Sunday morning BKT.

This particular Taufu Hua stall in located along the Pasar Pagi stretch in Taman Eng Ann every Sunday mornings. His taufu hua would certainly be one of the best in town; silky, flavorful & CHEAP! Only RM1.80 per serving...who says you cant get cheap good food anymore these days?

From my conversations with the uncle, he only selects organic soya beans to make his taufu hua, which is why they are extra yummy & flavourful, and also without the floury taste. Oh and did I mention that this guy adds gula melaka into his taufu hua upon request? Wonderful right?

Uncle sells soya milk & herbal jelly as well. The soya milk is something you must try everytime you are here. Filled with the natural fragrance of soya beans, this is the perfect protein shake and cheaop too, just RM2 per bottle. Dont play play eh...

Besides, where to find a friendly face like this nowadays?

Oh did I mention he uses the traditional wooden barrel to transport the goods? Old school sia...reminds me of my childhood whenever I visit him...not long ago ofcoz hahaha

Damn nice this taufu hua stall...perfect for morning tea or just chill with a friend or two...

Heres a map of the pasar pagi where the stall in located for you. Just along Jalan Kawasari 4 in the Eng Ann town centre, you cant miss it. His stall should be fairly easy to find as he is the only one selling taufu hua there. No tel provided ofcoz.

Pao Xiang Bak Kut teh, Klang

Before I start blogging....

Happy 2010 Everyone!!! Special thanks to all my readers as you people are the inspiration behind this blogger's never-ending quest for good food from all corners of the country!

OK back to blogging.

And whats better than starting the new year with some yummilicious BAK KUT TEH?

This time I went to Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh, one of the more famous ones in Klang and more specifically in Bekerly Gardens. They are famous for tying up their meat with strings then cooking them in one whole piece, thus absorbing more flavours compared to conventional styles of BKT. Also not to be missed are their lard cakes & huge pork ribs, which I unfortunately missed because we reached there late....

The set up of this place is as traditional as you want them to be. Simple shot lot, dirty doorsteps and organized madness inside. Looks for their big signage when looking for the place.

Or look for this small signage on the middle of the road...

We ordered the "small bones", tied shoulder meat & some fatty cuts for good measure...since they ran out of lard cakes & huge ribs. What makes a good serving of BKT in my mind would be:

1. Good soup

2. fresh cuts of pork

And this places exceeds all my expectations.

The soup was wonderfully fragrant and have a well balance taste of spices, essential to the dish. Mixing in with rice was marvelous as the slight fragrant of the rice mixed superbly well with the soup. The meat were as fresh as they get, as I know the place gets fresh supplies of pork from the nearby market every morning.

Another interesting thing about the BKT here: they have less fat floating around the soup. Really I no bluff one! this is all thanks to their meat tying technique which keeps the fat in the meat instead of floating around the soup. Now this makes the soup tastier in a way and keeps all the yummy yummy fats in the meat. Clever eh?

Just look at these pictures, aren't you hungry already?

Yum Yum Yum.

No one can resist this BKT i tell you. No one!

We left happy & well satisfied. The bill came to around RM50 for 5 people, just the right price for BKT in Klang.

Heres a map for you readers. Just take a 3 o' clock turn when you reach the Bekerley rouadabout from Federal Highway then turn into Lebuh Bangau on your right. Pao Xiang is located on your left along Lebuh Bangau. Piece of advice: GO EARLY LIKE 8 am!!! They have a branch in 1 Utama & another opening soon in Pavilion I heard.
