Kiwi Express Bakery & Cafe, USJ

This quiet little cafe is one of my favorite cafes in USJ, not just because of their good food but also the quietness of the place. I could spend hours just reading a book there without a worry in the world and also, the fact that I could smoke inside their air-cond premise is another bonus...hehehe

So I was there the other night with a good friend of mind, just catching and chit-chatting and she brought her camera along. So why not? Its time I give a review to this nice little cafe as I ordered my usual, their famous Kiwi Burger and my friend went with their lamb chop (which in the end, became my lamp chop =.= )

Food arrived fairly quickly, another plus point as we were chatting away and boy were we hungry. My Kiwi Burger looked & smells great with the usual home made meat patties, cheese, veg and most importantly, a freshly fried egg all mashed wonderfully together with nice home made buns. I changed the chips to salad due to my *ehem* wonderful figure and they were happy enough to do that for me. You have gotta try this at least once in your life, simply one of the best and dare I say, healthiest burgers around town.

The lamb chop was alright. Not the best I had but OK for a cafe I guess. The meat was fresh but lacked the lamb's gamy flavour. Some people would like this but to me, whats lamb without the taste of lamb? The black pepper sauce was alright and the accompanying corn & baked potato offers a welcomed change to the usual chips & coleslaw.

We had their signature Kiwi juice for drinks, besides the half-a-dozen coffees I had. This is another must try item as well. I believe that this is freshly squeezed everyday and its freshness & wonderful aroma would simply take you to another world...corny but true :)

Overall the food here is above average and pricing is very acceptable. The total comes to about RM60 for 2 main course, a couple servings of kiwi juices and the coffees I had.

Heres a map of the place for you readers. Kiwi Express USJ is located inside USJ or Taipan Business Centre, along the bank street. It is very prominent so you should have no problem locating it. I heard they have several other branches in Phileo Damansara & Puchong as well.

Seng Kee, China Town KL

Another midnight gem in the middle of KL, this time, I finally had the chance to sample one of the most famous lou shu fun (老鼠粉) stores in KL. So whats so great about staying up till 3am then have supper at some old building infested with rodents & roaches you ask? Haha like what I always say: A good meal in Malaysia is supposed to give you a nice diarrhea the morning after...*ehem* anyways...

This place is very easy to spot, as the tables fill up the streets at night. We were very lucky to be able to grab a seat big enough for all, as there were dozen upon dozens of clubbers/drinkers/too-bored-ers around at that time.

The must try here would be their lou shu fun, which is served in a claypot loaded with a generous amount of minced pork & a raw egg. Mix in the egg and wow, the whole dish would be immediately transform into a silky, tender, oh-so-great-i-cant-find-words-for-it experience. Definitely the star of the night this one. And it gets better. The aromatic & spicy sambal which comes along with the dish totally adds an extra dimension into the dish. Awesomeness galore!

Another must try dish here would be their fried siu yok or roasted pork. Really, whats better than roasted pork? The answer: fried them again! XD Absolutely chewy yet tender, the frying process intensifies the natural flavours of the pork, making this a very, very yummilicious dish. I recommend chewing a piece of these heavenly gems in your mouth for at least 3 minutes, close your eyes and think happy thought....you will be in heaven in no time.

They serve yong tau fu here as well. Although they do taste good, but I dont feel anything special about them. Maybe the first 2 dishes were just too awesome XD

The people here were very friendly, especially the chefs which took me by surprise. They pose happily for a picture and we even stroke a few conversation together, like for a minute or so.

The meal came to about RM70 for 8 people including drinks. Very economical in KL terms I reckon, especially for the quality of food you get!

Heres a map of the place for you readers. It is located along Jalan Sultan, opposite Kompleks Selangor.

Le Joyeux Bistro, USJ Taipan

If I were to design a happy lounge for heaven, it would be filled with real german pork sausages with an unlimited supply of German beer for a very very reasonable price. Well luckily I dont have to wait till I die to do that, as someone has already done that...while everyones alive that is.
Formerly known as Meatyhouse, the place is now know as Le Joyeux. This place offers some of the best sausages & meat products in town, and of course, loads of German beer. Besides the good ol' german goodness, they now serve Malaysian favourites such as roti bakar, half boiled eggs & kopi ice! Wow! Its like the perfect marriage between German tradition & Malaysian culture.

This place has been known for their homemade sausages & other pork products. Me & a group of friends went there recently for some nice Sunday hi-tea session/sesi borak meborak lately and yes, all of us ordered the necessary processed meat products our body needed for the whole month.

Here are just some of the food offered there:

And no sausages would be complete without the house mustard. Personally, I would prefer Dijon or seeded mustard...but the ones they have, similar to American mustard, just spicier is alright.

The cafe sells sausages and other meat products for customers to cook at home too. Just look at their wide selection of premium sausages, hams, bacons and so on. Oh, beer too :D

Food here cost about RM10 - RM30 for a plate of nice, juicy meat products, quite affordable for the food you get.
Heres a map & details for you readers.Le Joyeus Bistro is located in Taipan USJ, just next to Stabucks.

Doggyjames says...A fine place for USJ folks to get their fix of premium sausages in a very nice setting...not to be missed!

Murni Mamak Store, ss2 PJ

Its 3 in the morning, you are hungry/bored, cant sleep and had a whole bunch of crazy friend with you and they are hungry too. What should you do? Normally I would just settle for any 24hr mamak store around the corner but on that particular day, The place Murni was suggested. I've heard of the place many times before but never tried it (yes I know...me is the noobs) so why not?

The place is located in the famous makan haven of ss2, and you would know where it is just by looking at the CRAZY rows of people and table occupying a whole block of the usually busy ss2 area. When night comes, this place is king i tell you.

So we settled down and ordered our drinks first. I wanted to go for the usual ice lemon tea but was intrigued by the idea of having some special fruit juice instead. So it was the mango special for me. The others ordered melon special, orange special and all sorts of specials you could think of. And damn its good! I have never liked the idea of having mamak fruit juices but this is really good! I suspect they use real mango (added in with the mango syrup of course...) as there were traces of mango pieces all over. Full marks for this one!

I left the food choices to my friends who frequent this place a lot. He was telling us there are a lot of funny funny roti e.g. Roti Beckham, Roti Ronaldo, Roti Hawaii etc. and I was like WTF??? roti beckham = mohawk style roti kah? 5 minutes of akward silence followed as everyone was indulging in my ultimate noobness. Yeah, I can be a bimbo sometimes.

Anyways back to the rotis.

Roti Beckham was, unfortunately a disappointment for me. It taste alot like mashed tuna with meat & bacon inside. The taste just didn't gel well for me. Tried adding some dhaal & curry but it was just too weird for me. I'll take a pass at this.

Next came the roti hawaii. OMFG this must be the bomb here. Minced mystery meat (i suspect its ramli burger meat) with pineapple & sausages inside, with a heavy presence of egg inside...all topped up with the oh so good and oh so unhealthy mayo. Noneed to add any sauce to this its great as it is!!!

We ordered a roti seafood as well, just in case anyone was still hungry. Great too with a generous amount of tuna meat & crabstick inside, served as it is with normal dhall & curry. Simple yet gorgeously yummy...This I would come back and wallup the whole thing myself muahahhahaha.

The place is packed for the whole night. We left around the 4-5am mark and still people were coming in to have their meals! That i guess is more than a testament to how good their food actually are.

Price wise, it is surely very economical for the quality & quantity of food you get. A nice jug of special juice cost around RM5 whilst the special roti cost about RM5 or less.

Here's a map & shop details for you readers. Murni is just located behind KFC in ss2 or along Public Bank. Better yet, just drive around ss2 and look for a whole row of shoplots packed with satisfied diners.
