Lala Chong, Ara Damansara

Lala Chong has been the place to go to for a great seafood meal, especial for us who stays around the Klang Valley. Long being the landmark of Kampung Ara Damansara, the establishment was recently moved to Ara Damansara, which I must admit provides a much better ambiance for diners, despite losing some of its original flavours (as in traffic dust and the huge ass big pond). It even has a air conditioned level now, instantly making this place one of the wedding dinner venues for me should I ever get married XD

So one day me and my friends had the cravings for a nice seafood dinner, which of course automatically includes lalas or small clams cooked with superior soup, and mour first thoughts were Lala Chong. So off we went and with the help of our trusty GPS, we finally found the place.

Without further a due we seated ourselves and ordered some dishes. Not long after, the first of our dishes, tofu soup arrived. made to taste similar to sharksfin soup, this dish would have its rightful place among the mother of all soups. Smooth, taste mighty fine with a hint of natural sweetness and with an agonizingly fantastic smell, this soup is usually enhanced with a dash of vinegar, adding more taste and volume to its already magnificent taste.

The next to arrive is the famous Lala cooked in superior soup. This dish is as fine as ever, its basically lala cooked in chinese superior soup, enhanced with the presence of chopped chillies, ginger and chinese herbs. The clams were fresh and juicy, and the soup paired perfectly with plain white rice. Everyone were dripping sweat as we greedily finished the hot soup. Fantastic as ever this one.

We ordered with salt crusted baked talapia fish as well, which is also a must have here. The fresh talapia fish was baked over charcoal flames with a salt crust, stuffed with ginger, chillies, lemons and some chinese herbs. The result was a succulent fish, cooked just right and that extra bit of saltiness really completes this dish. If you come here and do not order this, doggyjames dowan to friend you anymore >:D

We ordered some vegetables just for good measure, they ran of out sayur paku so we just went with some normal greens. Order their spicy sayur paku next time you are here, you might just be luckier than me :)

I have no idea why but we ordered the herbal chicken instead of the usual bbq lamb ribs. The herbal chicken was nothing to shout about, chicken was a little bit blend and tasteless for me, and the herbal soup had too little omph! for me.

We had a really good time over at Lala Chong. The meal cost us less than RM25 per person, which is arguably reasonable for all the yummies we had.

Heres a map for you readers. I really had no idea how to describe the location so my advice is to equip yourself with a GPS to find the place and hopefully the map helps a bit.

  1. I am truly disappointed with the food and service at Lala Chong Seafood Village in Ara Damansara. Was there on 16 Aug 2014 with my family for dinner, the captain recommended a prawn dish called 'gon jin har lok', we thought why not, when the prawn dish was served, the prawns are filled with Chlorine taste, we can even smell the Chlorine, we told the captain, he buat tak tahu, then we told the boss, he buat tak tahu too, then they started to avoid our 2 tables, and of course they still charge the prawn at full price without coming back to us for any explanation, shame on their food and service!
