Located in the small town of Tangkak, approximately 2 hours drive from KL, is where this little town secret lies. The owner, Au Ah Kuang is rumoured to be the one who perfected the art of making the perfect bowl of beef noodles (牛腩面). In my 5 minutes of small chat with him i found out that, according to him, the dish was invented by his father and he was the one who decided to make a business out of it when there were no such thing as beef noodles in the country years ago. And the rest they say, is history.Well, just by those comments i think everyone should try this dish at least once, just to see if its true or not. Mr Au can be found at his Tangkak branch restaurant almost everyday, as you can see below:
The place is located near the main street of Tangkak, just look for the yellow cow logo. Interior wise its simple and doesn't really shouts out. Just sit down and order your beef noodles with whatever kind of noodles you want, mee, mihun or kuey teow. Then wait.
It would only take less than a few minutes for your bowl of heavenly goodness arrive, provided there are not many customers of course. I was there around 2.30pm, just after lunch time so it was fine. Now, doesn't this look absolutely wonderful? Your beef noodles would come with, of course slices of beef which are oh so sweet and tender, and the beef belly. To those who have not try beef belly before i urge you to go for it. Absolutely wonderful.
The selling point of this noodles, besides the fresh ingredients i think is the soup. The soup is so rich and full of taste yet so clear and soft. It the perfect balance of yin and yang and no words i think could describe it. I like to add a bit of vinegar to give it a little bit of a kick, but its advisable for you to savour the soup by itself first before deciding whether you need the vinegar or not.
I finished mine within 10 minutes, nothing left.
The meal come to RM12 for 2 bowls of noodles and 2 drinks. Quite reasonable for the quality of food. I heard theres another branch in along Jalan Imbi KL, which was headed by the boss' son. But of course, the boss did said that the taste is no where near the original restaurant in Tangkak, as they used fresh meat there.
Heres a map and details for you readers. Turn into Tangkak exit from the North South Expressway, turn right after the toll and go straight until you reach something like a town centre. Look for Jalan Solok on your right when you reach a crossroad. Kuang Fei is located on the right of the street.

ReplyDeleteI have discovered and would like to share GOOD FOOD -the famous Kota Bharu, Kelantan Beef Noodles (Lim Siong Kee - about 36 years history) has travelled to PUCHONG (I have waited for more than 30 years for its arrival). Located at Restoran KH20 - 67, Jalan Kenari 20, Bdr. Puchong Jaya (opposite IOI Mall). Open daily from morning to lunch & closed on Sundays. I have taken it many times and I love it (no need to go back to KBharu yearly ). You should go and try it.
